As we dive into Easter weekend, it’s the perfect time to remember a few of those Christian lessons we learned as kids. If you’re not Christian, keep reading because this applies to you too. We’re taught that Christ laid down his life for us. It’s the most selfless act imaginable. If He can make the ultimate sacrifice for people that hated Him, we can certainly emulate His example.
It’s a great reminder to all of us struggling through this storm. Take this opportunity to practice selflessness with a servant’s heart. What does that mean? It means it’s not about you! That’s a hard truth to swallow. It’s easy to see a season of difficulty and focus only on how it affects you. What about how it affects others in your community? Your family? Your neighbors?
Selflessness with a servant’s heart in this season looks like following guidelines to protect others, even if it interferes with your day-to-day life. It looks like being patient as you wait 6 feet away from others in a never-ending toilet paper line. It means having compassion for others, regardless of the situation. Most of all, it means doing all of these things with a positive attitude!
None of us are going to come through this as the same person we were going in to it. However, you get to choose what kind of person you are at the end. Are you going to be proud of how you responded in a moment of crisis? Did you do your best to remain positive? Did you practice gratitude? Did you help your neighbor? Those things are going to determine who you are two months from now.
This Easter, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on how you’ve shown up during this time. Have a Happy Easter, from my quarantine to yours!
