When you have grown up in the mountains of southwest Montana like I have, you can understand why Montana is called God’s Country. He saved the best for last when He made this region.
As with many folks who are native to the area, I LOVE hanging out in the mountains. Roadtrips, camping, fishing, hunting, riding horses, etc. The beauty, the smells, the solitude…all contribute to a better sense of well-being. Nothing ruins that feeling more than finding someone’s garbage out in the middle of nowhere. I can’t count how many bags of garbage I have brought out of the back country over the years because some people are too lazy to pick up after themselves. They will happily pack it in but don’t have the common sense or brainpower to pack it out. I know many folks do the same and help keep our piece of Heaven beautiful and clean. And to those people, I thank you. To the other folks who think it is okay to trash our piece of Big Sky Country, do us a favor and stay home and trash your own yard.
Fire season is here and one needs to be extra careful when using fire in the outdoors. Montana has already seen a spate of lightning caused fires and will see plenty more between now and this fall. Please try not to add to the fire count. Make sure your fires are completely out, soaked with water, covered with dirt and whatever else you can do to make sure there are no embers hiding.
Let’s do our part to keep this part of the world beautiful and awesome!
