Long lazy summer days are meant for dreaming. We live in a beautiful community, and many great new businesses have come to town recently. Let’s take a minute to dream together: what else would you like to see come to town? I have opened the comments below, and I would love your input!
Personally, I would love to see someone purchase the Butte Plaza Mall and turn it around. There is no denying that it needs a little help right now. Perhaps a new company would be able to revitalize this asset and bring some new retail opportunities to town (ahem, women’s business clothes).
I would also like to see a store that would sell baby furniture/accessories. As an aunt-to-be, I have found the opportunities for baby shopping to be a little slim. In fact, anything besides clothing seems to be limited to Walmart. We lack any local options, with the exception of the great folks over at Ware Me Baby Boutique. This problem is only getting worse with the closing of KMart and Herberger’s.
I would also love to see some new industrial opportunities. If we can improve our economy through better paying industry, instead of minimum wage jobs, the retail opportunities will follow. Butte would be an excellent place for shipping companies (Hi, Amazon) or more bitcoin mining operations (cool weather and fiber optic connectivity). With Highlands College training such excellent welders, Butte is also ideal for more industry that can utilize that labor pool. The added benefit would be our young people staying in town and increasing our population.
And, since we are dreaming here, I want to see a cleaned up Silver Bow Creek corridor. With the resignation of EPA leadership, things are a bit tenuous in that area. But without a quality clean up and revitalization effort, our community won’t live to see any of these dreams come true.
What are your dreams for Butte?
