So by now, I’m sure you have heard that the KMART here in Butte is closing. With Butte being the only large city in the state with almost zero growth (that’s a whole other issue for another time regarding our leadership), this is yet another slap in the face to the people of this great town.
One thing each and every one of us can do is do our shopping here, LOCALLY. Yes, I know KMART is part of a huge multinational corporation, but they pay local taxes, property taxes, payroll taxes and provide a number of jobs to LOCAL people. Local people who need those jobs. And those are things that cannot be easily replaced.
Is it convenient to get online and order everything you need and have it delivered in a couple of days? Yup. Is it fun to take a little road trip and load up on supplies and groceries in another town. You bet. Is it worth the cost to our community and people? Not a chance. Do we need yet another building sitting empty, rotting and not being used? No.
The best way for our businesses to thrive is to actually shop there and buy there. Okay, so maybe they might have to order something you need. So what? You would still have to travel or order it anyway. So let our awesome businesses supply you with what you want and need, even the big stores. Successful businesses here in Butte mean jobs, taxes and make things more attractive to people and businesses looking to move here.
Shop local. It’s simple.
