Not sure why, but this cold weather we are having has me already thinking about and planning my Alaskan cruise next summer. Maybe it is the thought of watching the cold glaciers calving into the bays or the whales feeding in the icy water. Or maybe my brain is a bit frozen.
Regardless, I am excited about my annual cruise up the Inside Passage. This time, we are doing a different itinerary. Instead of the up and back from Seattle, we will be leaving out of Vancouver, BC and traveling all the way up to Anchorage with stops in Icy Point Strait, Juneau and Ketchikan.
One of the coolest points of interest will be cruising Glacier Bay and seeing the massive glaciers as they meet the ocean. And seeing them calve, hearing the thunderous booms as massive slabs collapse into the water is immeasurable.
All the wildlife one sees on this trip is amazing. Thousands of bald eagles, bears, whales, porpoises, salmon and numerous other critters keeps one mesmerized and the camera ready to shoot.
Arriving in Anchorage is going to give me the opportunity to explore some new country for a few days afterwards. Denali is on the list, as is Homer. Maybe run into the Kilchers and Jewel? Hey, one can dream, right?
