Did we miss Halloween and Thanksgiving this year? Seriously. I was out doing some shopping recently and what did I see in not one store, but two stores? Christmas displays!! I was assaulted and overwhelmed by the sights and smells of the winter holiday. It was awful.
Now, before you get all upset that I am trashing Christmas, I’m not. What I am not happy about is the fact we have to have the commercialism of it thrown in our faces months before it actually happens. It is almost reminiscent of being buried under political ads months and months before an election. Okay, it isn’t quite that disgusting, but I digress.
The last time I checked, we haven’t even made it to Halloween or even Thanksgiving. Or did we and I somehow missed them? In both stores, the Halloween sections were considerably smaller than the Christmas sections. Thanksgiving? Didn’t even see anything to shop for.
I get it that retail has to start early to cash in on the holidays. But this early is an affront and an insult to every customer out there. Amazingly, each and every one of us can still shop for Christmas any time of the year without all the glitter and glam being shoved in our faces.
Let’s try to get through each holiday before we set up displays for the next one or two. With Christmas intermixed with Halloween and Thanksgiving, it makes me feel like I am a character in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
