It’s finally happening! Montana is going to see some rain and even some snow over the next few days. Even as I write this, a light rain is falling here in Butte. However, the sun will be back later this afternoon.
But beginning tomorrow through Friday, we are looking at a 90% chance of the cool, wet stuff all around southwest Montana. The mountains above 6400 feet are looking at several inches of snow, which we desperately need.
Even with all the moisture heading our way, fire officials are only cautiously optimistic about our fire situation around the state. Huge fires continue to burn and the moisture we get will only put a dent in the situation but not stop it.
Montana currently has 45 active fires still burning. Some of these have been burning since July. Countless acres of grass, timber and wildlife habitat have been lost so far and more will be lost before the fires are finally snuffed out by enough moisture this fall.
So wash your cars, do more rain dances and anything you can think of to bring more of the wet stuff to us!
